FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The Stevenson University women's beach volleyball team opened its season by going 1-1 at the Principia Beach Bash at Empower Sports Club on Friday. The Mustangs edged Division II Tusculum 3-2 before getting swept by Division I Morehead State 5-0.
The No. 3 pair of Darian Hileman and Emily Pellini clinched the match against the Pioneers by prevailing 21-13, 15-21, 17-15.
Katie Leftridge and Shannon Baily were 21-15, 21-17 victors at No. 1, while Trang Christensen and Piper Connors registered a 21-14, 21-19 triumph at No. 2.
Against the Eagles, Leftridge and Baily nearly forced a third set at No. 1 before falling 21-9, 24-22. Lizi Cudal and Grace Chaffee fell 21-19 in the first set at No. 4 before dropping the second set 21-11. Kayla Vaeth and Taylor Jones dropped a 21-14, 21-19 decision at No. 5.
Stevenson faces Park (Kansas) at 11 am and Carson-Newman at 3:30 pm on the second and final day of the Principia Beach Bash Saturday.
