GULF SHORES, Ala. - Stevenson Women's Beach Volleyball earned their second straight bronze finish at nationals with their victories over the University of Lynchburg and Hendrix College today.
In this morning's quarterfinal matchup, the Mustangs came out on top of a 3-2 battle against Lynchburg.
At the ones, Maddie Clouser and Hannah Naja won their first and third sets 21-18 and 18-16, respectively. Fours Makala Thompson and Maren Zepfel earned victories of 21-18 and 21-19. Fifth flight Scarlett Dunn and Claire Thompson won yet again, taking two 21-13 sets.
The victory sent the Mustangs to the semifinal round against top-ranked Mary Hardin-Baylor, who bested Stevenson 3-0. Mary Hardin-Baylor would take home the national championship title.
With the loss to the reigning national champions, Stevenson met with Hendrix in the bronze medal match. The Mustangs won 3-1 to earn their second consecutive bronze medal.
Twos Nicolette Fuglestad and Miranda Mueck earned victories of 21-13 and 21-18. Makala Thompson and Maren Zepfel won quick 21-14 and 21-16 sets as the fourth flight. Scarlett Dunn and Claire Thompson rounded out the Mustangs' three wins with sets of 21-18 and 21-15.
With the win, the Mustangs finish the season 16-10.
