Women’s Beach Volleyball goes undefeated at Lynchburg Invitational

LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Stevenson women's beach volleyball team went 5-0 at the Lynchburg Invitational this weekend. The team defeated Liberty 3-2, Lynchburg 3-2, Southern Virginia 4-1, Richard Bland 5-0, and Regent 5-0.
 

By the Numbers:

Liberty (3-2)

First Pair: In the first pairing, Giulia Viglietta and Nicolette Fuglestad fell in two sets, 17-21 and 16-21.

Second Pair: Elle Means and Jacque Rizzuto won in the 2s; 21-12 in both sets. 

Third Pair: In the 3s, Sima Kahoussi and Kylie DesLauriers won both sets with scores of 21-13 and 22-20.

Fourth Pair: Rachel Lenz and Claire Thompson battled to three sets, but fell 1-2.

Fifth Pair: Maren Zepfel and Samantha Simmers took both sets in the fifth pair, 21-18.

Lynchburg (3-2)

First Pair: In the 1s, Viglietta and Fuglestad fell 0-2, with set scores of 18-21 and 15-21. 

Second Pair: Means and Rizzuto won in the second pairing, 21-19 and 21-17.  

Third Pair: In the third pairing, Kahoussi and DesLauriers battled to three sets, and won 2-1.

Fourth Pair: Lenz and Thompson won in the 4s, winning both sets 21-18. 

Fifth Pair: Zepfel and Simmers fell in the 5s, with set scores of 18-21 and 16-21. 

Southern Virginia (4-1)

First Pair: Viglietta and Fuglestad won both sets with scores of 21-10 and 21-10.

Second Pair: Means and Rizzuto swept the 2s, winning both sets 21-15.

Third Pair: In the 3s, Kahoussi and DesLauriers fell 19-21 and 17-21. 

Fourth Pair: Lenz and Thompson won in the fourth pairing, 21-19 and 21-18. 

Fifth Pair: Zepfel and Simmers fought to three sets in the 5s, winning 2-1. 

Richard Bland (5-0) 

First Pair: Viglietta and Fuglestad won both sets in the 1s; 21-16 and 21-12.

Second Pair: Means and Rizzuto took both matches in the second pairing, 21-15 and 21-4.  

Third Pair: In the third pairing, Kahoussi and DesLauriers won the first set 21-11, and took the second win due to medical forfeit from Richard Bland. 

Fourth Pair: Lenz and Thompson won in the 4s, 21-18 and 21-14.  

Fifth Pair: Zepfel and Simmers slotted two wins in the fifth pairing 21-17 and 21-11. 

Exhibition: In the sixth match, Scarlett Dunn and Isabella Terra won both sets, 21-18 and 21-14. 

Regent (5-0)

First Pair: In the first pairing, Viglietta and Fuglestad took both sets with scores of 21-9 and 21-18.

Second Pair: Means and Rizzuto grabbed two wins, with scores of 21-15 and 21-12.  

Third Pair: Kahoussi and DesLauriers won both sets in the 3s, with scores of 21-10 and 21-5. 

Fourth Pair: In the 4s, Lenz and Thompson won both sets, 21-11 and 21-15.  

Fifth Pair: Zepfel and Simmers tallied two commanding wins, 21-6 and 21-14.
