OWINGS MILLS, Md. - Women's Beach Volleyball hosted the University of Lynchburg and Southern Virginia University today to kick off the 2025 Stevenson Invitational. After a tough 3-2 loss to the Hornets, the Mustangs bounced back to down the Knights 4-1.
Stevenson's wins against Lynchburg came from their fourth and fifth flights. Courtney Foose and Rachel Lenz came back from a 21-19 first set loss to win 21-9 and 15-10 at the fours. At the fives, Scarlett Dunn and Claire Thompson took care of their opponents in a pair of 21-12 performances.
The first flight proved to be the decider, and Maddie Clouser and Hannah Naja took the first set 21-17 before the Lynchburg duo came back, 21-19 and 16-14.
In exhibition, Maren Zepfel and Makala Thompson earned quick victories of 21-5 and 21-11.
The Mustangs bounced back in their second match of the day against Southern Virginia with all five flights recording victories.Â
Second flight Nicolette Fuglestad and Miranda Mueck got the Mustangs' first victory of the match, making short work of the Knights in sets of 21-13 and 21-6.
Fours Courtney Foose and Rachel Lenz earned their victory in three sets, going 21-13, 17-21, and 15-9 to end the day undefeated as a pair.
Scarlett Dunn and Claire Thompson did the same as the Mustangs' fifth pairing, earning set victories of 21-9 and 21-11.
Sima Kahoussi and Giulia Viglietta picked up a victory as the third flight, winning 21-9 and 21-12.
Maren Zepfel and Makala Thompson had another impressive showing in exhibition play, allowing just nine total points against.
The Mustangs look to add two more victories tomorrow as they close out the regular season. Their day starts with an 11 a.m. rematch against Lynchburg and finishes with a 3 p.m. matchup against Lancaster Bible College.
