Mustangs Drop UCHC Road Contest at William Smith

GENEVA, N.Y. - William Smith netted four goals in the third period while the Stevenson women's ice hockey team was shutout for the fourth time this season in a, 6-0, United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) contest Sunday afternoon at The Cooler.

  • Following back-to-back saves by junior Annika Carlander, the Herons (9-7-0, 4-2-0 UCHC) went on the game's first power play at the 5:22 mark after a slashing penalty.
  • William Smith recorded just one shot on the player advantage, which was knocked away by Carlander.
  • Just 57 seconds after the Mustangs (5-7-2, 3-4-0 UCHC) killed off the penalty, the visitors earned their first power play attempt but did not record a shot on net.
  • With 36 seconds remaining before intermission, Gina Scibetta gave the Herons the lead after scoring on a rebound right in front of the net.

  • William Smith recorded the opening four shots of the period before the Mustangs answered with five straight of their own before the Herons were whistled for a penalty.
  • Stevenson put three shots on net during the player advantage, including two by senior Jordan Pirrello, but Olivia Williams kept the hosts lead at one.
  • At the 15:18 mark, the Mustangs went back on the power play yet were denied another three times by Williams.
  • The Herons added another late goal, this time with 34 seconds prior to intermission as Kate Kilmaszewski buried a shot on the far left post after a pass across the face of the goal.

  • At the 4:29 mark, the Herons pushed their lead to 3-0 with an even strength goal.
  • The Mustangs recorded one shot on their fourth power play attempt but the shot by sophomore Ally Gibson was saved by Williams.
  • William Smith scored three goals in a 4:28 span, including back-to-back goals just 1:09 apart.

  • Stevenson outshot William Smith, 44-36.
  • Both teams were scoreless on the power play with the Mustangs going 0-for-4 and the Herons finishing 0-for-3.
  • Freshman KaliJo Zagula had a team-high two blocked shots while sophomore Tea Ferrara won a game-high 12 face-offs.

  • Stevenson returns to action on Friday, January 24 when the Mustangs host a UCHC and Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) versus Wilkes beginning at 7:00 p.m.
