ANGOLA, Ind. – The Stevenson women's ice hockey team (0-8-1) fell to Trine (2-4-1) by a 5-3 score on Saturday afternoon.
Trine opened the scoring at the 7:13 mark, but Carleigh Barwick answered with an unassisted goal a few minutes later. The Thunder regained the lead in the 16th minute before Jalyn Jones buried a pass from Kira Otto less than a minute later to tie the game at 2-2.
Trine tallied the only goal of the second period to take a 3-2 advantage into the third. Kylie Chandler evened the contest at 3-3 early in the final frame off a feed from Kayedi Spone. The Thunder responded 12 minutes later with the eventual game-winner and sealed the 5-3 victory with an empty-net goal in the final 30 seconds.
Barwick, Chandler, Jones, Otto, and Spone each recorded one point, while Maggie Sehnert stopped 26 shots. Kiana Baker excelled in the faceoff circle, finishing 10-7.
The Mustangs return to action on Sunday for the second game of the weekend series against Trine. Puck drop is set for 11 a.m.
