Balanced Scoring Column Moves Mustangs Past Lycoming

OWINGS MILLS, Md. - Stevenson University got goals from nine different players as it downed Lycoming College 16-8 in MAC Commonwealth men's lacrosse Saturday night at Mustang Stadium.

  • Will Smith got Stevenson (5-6, 3-0 MAC Commonwealth) on the board at the 6:36 mark.
  • Just 37 seconds later, Gray McKee scored off a feed from Cam Leydig.
  • After Lycoming (4-8, 2-2 MAC Commonwealth) scored at the 2:07 mark, Jacob Tatum gave the Mustangs a 3-1 lead after one with his goal with 1:10 left in the quarter.  McKee assisted on the score.
  • Stevenson had nine caused turnovers in the opening 15 minutes as the Warriors have 12 giveaways.

  • Ethan Christensen scored the first of his two goals in the second quarter with 12:24 remaining in the half.
  • After McKee scored with 8:58 remaining to make it 5-1, Christensen struck again with 5:15 on the clock.
  • The Warriors got a man-up goal from Dominick Massaro, his second of the game, to make it 6-2.
  • JT Thelen closed out the first half scoring on Tyler Sullivan's first assist of the season with 41 seconds to play before intermission to make it 7-2.

  • Lycoming scored twice on a two-minute full-time penalty to pull within 7-4 at the 11:11 mark.
  • Senior defender Dylan Harris scored his first career goal at the 10:29 mark to kick off a four-goal run for the Mustangs.
  • Smith potted a man-up tally with 10:29 on the clock.
  • Goals by McKee (5:29) and Connor Nelson (3:47) extended Stevenson's lead to 11-4.
  • The guests scored twice in the final 3:08 to pull within 11-6 entering the fourth.

  • McKee scored his fourth goal of the game 50 seconds into the final frame.
  • Leydig entered the scoring column with 11:30 left on an assist from Tatum.
  • Lycoming struck at 7:52, but 38 seconds later Lewis Anania scored to make it a 14-7 game.
  • After a Thelen man-up goal with 5:45 on the clock, Tatum's second goal of the game closed out Stevenson's scoring with just over four minutes until the final horn.

  • Stevenson outshot Lycoming 56-24.
  • The Mustangs finished 23-24 on clearing attempts.
  • Both teams won 13 faceoffs.
  • McKee led the hosts with four goals and two assists while also picking up three ground balls.
  • Tatum and Christensen each notched two goals and an assist, while Thelen and Smith added two goals apiece.
  • Leydig registered a goal and two assists, while Nelson finished with a goal and an assist.
  • The Mustangs had a season-high 19 caused turnovers.  It marks the most caused turnovers in a game since recording 23 against Lycoming on April 21, 2015.
  • Harris led the Mustangs with five caused turnovers in addition to six ground balls.
  • Al Falco had four caused turnovers, while Jimmie Walsh finished with three and Jimmy Case and Dominic DeFazio two apiece.
  • Seth Thornton was 10-18 on faceoffs and notched six ground balls.
  • Marc Poust went the first 55:58 in goal and made seven saves before Tyler Steinberg went the rest of the way.
  • Stevenson improved to 51-0 all-time in MAC Commonwealth regular season play.
  • The Mustangs have not allowed more than eight goals in any of their victories and have scored at least 13 goals in all five.
  • Stevenson wraps up an eight-game homestand.  The Mustangs are away from home for five of their last six contests.
