OWINGS MILLS, Md. – The Stevenson men's lacrosse team (1-7) fell to No. 5 Salisbury, 20-9, on Saturday afternoon.
The Seagulls opened the game with a four-goal run before Darrell Curtis got Stevenson on the board at the 5:33 mark off an assist from John Martin Vince. Salisbury answered with another goal, but Camden Deming responded for the Mustangs, followed by a second goal from Curtis off a feed from Alexander Wilson. Stevenson trailed 5-3 at the end of the first quarter.
In the second quarter, Salisbury scored four unanswered goals to extend its lead to 9-3 heading into halftime.
Salisbury added two more goals to open the third before Hunter Bryant snapped the run with a goal at 9:31. After another Seagulls score, Bryant and Max Racich each found the back of the net for Stevenson. However, Salisbury closed the quarter on a three-goal run to take a 15-6 lead.
In the final frame, Racich recorded two man-up goals, while Curtis added his third goal of the game off an assist from Owen Johnson. Salisbury closed out the contest with five more goals to secure the 20-9 victory.
Curtis and Racich led the Mustangs with three goals apiece, while Bryant added two. Gavin Gossen recorded an assist and led the team with four ground balls. In goal, Tyler Merchant made nine saves.
Stevenson will remain on the road, as the team prepares to face Albright in MAC Commonwealth play. The contest is slated for 1 p.m. on Saturday in Reading, Pa.
