No. 14 Mustangs Shut Down Lycoming for Sixth Straight

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Four players finished with two goals apiece as the No. 14 Stevenson University men's lacrosse team jumped out to an 8-3 halftime lead and never looked back, downing Lycoming College 18-4 in MAC Commonwealth action Wednesday afternoon at the Shangraw Complex.

Stevenson (9-4, 4-0 MAC Commonwealth) extended its win streak to six and has won seven of its last eight games while improving to 28-0 all-time in conference play since joining the MAC Commonwealth.  Senior Stephen Banick led the Mustangs with two goals and a pair of assists, while juniors Kyle D'Onofrio, Morgan Pritchett and Parish Young all finished with two goals apiece.  Senior Matt Tompkins notched a goal while handing out four assists.

Junior Sean Ohlhaver posted a goal and two assists, while classmate Wade Korvin and senior Pat Candon each finished with a goal and an assist.  Sophomore long stick midfielder Lito Flanagan scored his first collegiate goal, while senior Dylan Muti, junior Tyler Fuhrman, sophomores Bryce Spruill and Kyle Karsian and freshman Wesley Reid all had single tallies as 14 players had a goal for the Mustangs.

Lycoming (2-9, 1-3 MAC Commonwealth) got a goal and an assist apiece from Sean Reilly and Travis Rode.

D'Onofrio opened the scoring at the 12:06 mark of the first quarter before Rode scored at the 5:58 mark to tie the game 1-1.  Stevenson scored the final three goals of the quarter, including two in the final minute, as Banick scored with 45 seconds to go and Muti with 14 ticks on the clock to give the guests a 4-1 lead after one.

Stevenson scored the first three goals of the second to make it 7-1 before the Warriors had a pair of goals 26 seconds apart to cut the lead to 7-3 4:22 before intermission.  Flanagan scored with 55 seconds left before halftime to give Stevenson an 8-3 lead at the break.  The guests scored all four goals in the third and the first six in the fourth to go up 18-3 before Peter Pluta scored the Mustangs' second half shutout bid with 54 seconds left.

The Mustangs outshot Lycoming 70-25, with freshman Garrett Egnaczyk making seven saves in the first 50:23 before being relieved by senior Connor Skeen, who made a pair of stops.  The Warriors' Joshua Tscheulin recorded 22 saves.  Stevenson also picked up 41 ground balls to Lycoming's 33, won 15-of-26 faceoffs, and committed nine turnovers, its second-fewest of the season.

Sophomore Dom DeFazio had three caused turnovers for the Mustangs while senior Taylor Morgan recorded two.  Stevenson had 13 caused turnovers on the afternoon.

Stevenson returns to action Saturday afternoon when it travels to Albright College for a 1:00 MAC Commonwealth contest.
