Box Score WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. - Senior Kathryn Merrick totaled a career-best eight points on six goals and two assists as the Stevenson women's lacrosse team posted a season-high 31 points en route to a 21-4 Commonwealth Conference victory Tuesday afternoon at Shangraw Complex.
With the win, the Mustangs (10-6, 6-1 MAC) have clinched the second seed in the upcoming Commonwealth Conference playoffs with one regular season game remaining. The team will host a semifinal contest on Wednesday, April 29.
For Merrick, her eight points ranks tied for third in school history as junior Tori Wagner also totaled eight points earlier this season. Leah Warner '13 holds the school record with 13 points set on April 13, 2010.
Wagner scored just 23 seconds into the game as Stevenson scored 13 of the first 14 goals of the game. Meanwhile, Merrick scored four of her six goals in the first half while sophomore Olivia Monteiro scored a natural hat trick in 1:58.
Senior Taylor Wright scored for the second-straight game from her defensive position while junior and defensive midfielder Jordan Porretto scored for the first time since March 10.
Stevenson's 13 first half goals is the second most this season behind the team's 14 set on April 8. Six different Mustangs totaled at least two goals, including Wagner, Monteiro and sophomore Brady Heher who all totaled three.
Wagner added three assist for six points while Monteiro and Heher dished out two assists a piece to total five points.
In addition to eight points, Merrick tied her career-high with seven draw controls while adding three ground balls and a caused turnover.
Defensively, Wright, Porretto and senior Amanda LeGar all totaled two caused turnovers while combining for eight ground balls.
Four different goalies saw action, with senior Leanne Bittner and junior Maggie Lawder combining for four saves.
Stevenson concludes the regular season on Saturday, April 25 when the Mustangs host Widener in a Commonwealth Conference contest beginning at 1:00 p.m. In pregame ceremonies, the Mustangs with honor seniors LeGar, Merrick, Wright, Chelsea Cavey and Meg Gill.
