OWINGS MILLS, Md. – The Stevenson women's lacrosse team (2-4) earned a narrow 12-11 victory over the University of Rochester on Wednesday evening at Mustang Stadium.
Ava Treakle opened the scoring at the 9:56 mark of the first quarter before the Yellow Jackets responded about two minutes later. Stevenson answered with a three-goal run to close the quarter, with goals from Zoe Kaplan, Alice Petersen, and Megan Greenwell to take a 4-1 lead.
Emma Carpenter extended the Mustangs' momentum with a goal nearly six minutes into the second quarter. Rochester then surged with a five-goal run to take a 6-5 lead, but Petersen and Hailey Johnson each found the back of the net late in the half to give Stevenson a 7-6 advantage at the break.
The second half featured a back-and-forth battle between the two teams. Rochester added five goals, while Petersen and Carpenter each scored twice and Greenwell added another to help the Mustangs secure the 12-11 victory.
Petersen led Stevenson with a five-point performance, recording four goals and an assist. Carpenter tallied a hat trick, while Greenwell contributed three points with two goals and an assist. Treakle added a goal and controlled six draws on the evening. In net, Regan Torbert anchored the defense with 13 saves.
The Mustangs will now prepare for their spring break trip to Clearwater, Florida, where they will face No. 16 Stevens at 10 a.m. and Farmingdale State at 3 p.m. on Tuesday.
