Women’s Lacross falls to St. Mary’s (Md.) Seahawks

ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. – The Stevenson women's lacrosse team (2-4) fell to the St. Mary's College of Maryland Seahawks, 9-6, on Saturday evening.

The Seahawks opened the scoring with two early goals before Ava Treakle responded at the 3:07 mark to cut the deficit in half. St. Mary's answered less than a minute later with their third goal, but Hailey Johnson found the back of the net with 46 seconds remaining in the quarter to make it a 3-2 game heading into the second.

The second quarter was a defensive battle between the two sides. Alice Petersen scored the lone goal of the period, tying the contest at 3-3 heading into halftime.

St. Mary's came out strong in the third quarter, scoring three straight goals to take control. Zoe Kaplan later finished off a play set up by Petersen to bring Stevenson within two at 6-4. The Seahawks responded with two more goals late in the quarter to take an 8-4 advantage into the final period.

The Seahawks added their ninth goal less than a minute into the fourth quarter. Treakle and Johnson each tallied their second goals of the game, but Stevenson was unable to close the gap as St. Mary's secured the 9-6 victory.

Petersen led the Mustangs with three points, while Treakle and Johnson each added two. Defensively, three Mustangs recorded three caused turnovers, and Allie Huck collected three ground balls. Regan Torbert made 11 saves in goal for Stevenson.

The Mustangs will next face University of Rochester in Mustang Stadium. First draw is set for Wednesday at 4 p.m.
