OWINGS MILLS, Md. – The Stevenson women's lacrosse team (5-5) earned a 16-5 victory over Neumann on Wednesday evening.
Neumann struck first off the opening draw, but Stevenson responded with a five-goal run. Ava Treakle got the Mustangs on the board at 13:22, followed by a goal from Zoe Kaplan off an assist by Alice Petersen. Sarah Perry added her first of the game at 7:43 on a man-up opportunity, before Petersen and Treakle each found the back of the net. Neumann added a late goal at 2:45, but Stevenson carried a 5-2 lead into the second quarter.
The Mustangs continued their momentum in the second, scoring four unanswered goals. Treakle opened the quarter at 11:41, followed by a man-up goal from Perry just over a minute later. Perry completed her hat trick at 7:30 with another man-up score, and Kaplan capped the half with a goal at 6:03 to give Stevenson a 9-2 advantage at the break.
Stevenson added two more goals to open the third quarter, with Emma Carpenter scoring at 11:57 and Maddie Kline finishing an assist from Perry at 8:58. Neumann answered 24 seconds later, but the Mustangs responded with goals from Treakle and Petersen. The Knights scored once more at 3:21, as Stevenson maintained a 13-4 lead heading into the final quarter.
In the fourth, Stevenson outscored Neumann 3-1. June Price found the back of the net at 13:58, Allison Zimmerman recorded her first collegiate goal at 8:32, and Petersen capped the scoring with a goal off an assist from Megan Greenwell at 4:07 to secure the 16-5 win.
Petersen led the Mustang offense with six points, while Treakle added five. Perry finished with four points, and Greenwell tallied three. Defensively, Caroline Layman recorded three caused turnovers and six ground balls. Regan Torbert earned the start in goal, making 11 saves, while Anna Johnston closed out the contest with five saves.
Stevenson will open MAC Commonwealth play on Wednesday, April 1, hosting Hood at 4 p.m.
