Rossi, Tompkins Lead No. 3 Mustangs Past No. 11 Western New England, 14-5

OWINGS MILLS, Md. - Stevenson men's lacrosse junior Tony Rossi totaled five points with four goals and one assist while senior Glen Tompkins added three goals to lead the third-ranked Mustangs to their 13th-straight win at home, 14-5 over No. 11 Western New England Saturday night at Mustang Stadium.

Stevenson (2-1) improved its record to 5-0 against the Golden Bears, including 4-0 at home.

Owen Caruso scored just 1:39 into the game to give Western New England its only lead before Tompkins scored with a man advantage just 48 seconds later to spark a four goal run by the Mustangs.

Rossi scored his first of the game with 4:07 left in the first to put Stevenson ahead for good before sophomore Stephen Banick scored back-to-back giving the Mustangs a 4-1 lead only 53 seconds into the second quarter.

Keegan Dudeck scored for the Golden Bears (0-2) less than a minute later to cut their deficit in half, but Rossi and Tompkins accounted for three of the game's next six goals to put Stevenson ahead, 10-2 with 14:14 remaining in the fourth quarter.

The Mustangs led by as many as 10 at 13-3 following Rossi's fourth goal of the game on the man advantage with 4:43 to play. Stevenson finished the game 4-for-5 with the extra-man.

A pair of Mustangs each netted their first tallies of the season against Western New England as senior Jordan Seivold scored with 8:56 left in the fourth before freshman Tyler Fuhrman scored the first of his career with 45 seconds remaining.

Defensively, sophomore Dimitri Pecunes had 10 saves for Stevenson while senior Kyle Holechek and sophomore Callum Robinson combined for seven of the team's 11 caused turnovers. Senior Brent Hiken won 12-of-16 face-offs and has a team-high seven ground balls.

Justin McKinney had two goals and one assist for the Golden Bears while Brandon Body made 21 saves for Western New England who was outshot, 48-30.

Stevenson returns to action next Saturday, March 8 when the defending Commonwealth Conference champions open league play at Albright. Face-off is at 4:00 p.m.
