Box Score

HENNIKER, N.H. - Highlighted by a career-high four points from sophomore Brooke Webber and the first career goal from sophomore Liana Vazquez, the Stevenson women's ice hockey team scored a record five goals en route to a 5-1 victory over New England College Friday at Lee Clement Arena.

The win snapped a nine-game losing streak for the Mustangs (4-10-1) and was their first road win since Jan. 27, 2013, ending a 10-game skid. The team also posted its first win in three meetings against the Pilgrims, improving its record to 1-1-1.

Stevenson, who entered the game ranked 30th in the nation in scoring offense, scored a school record five goals in the contest while totaling 10 assists, including at least one from seven different players. Webber and sophomores McKenzie Taggart and Megan Alexander each had two.

The first line of Taggart, Alexander and sophomore Molly O'Neil totaled six points with one goal and five assists. The line also finished with a plus-9 rating.

Vazquez got the scoring started at the 11:23 mark of the first period when she scored off assists from Webber and sophomore Jessie Capanelli. Vazquez now has one goal and two assists in 32 career games.

O'Neil then followed with the game-winner, netting her sixth goal of the season with just 12 seconds remaining in the period.

The Mustangs, who entered the game ranked 22nd in the nation on the power play, would add to their lead with two extra-man goals in the second period, the first coming from Webber at 9:11, assisted by Taggart and O'Neil. It was Webber's first goal of the season and first since Oct. 27, 2012 in a 4-1 win at Buffalo State.

Webber then picked up her second assist of the game at 14:13 when she and Alexander connected with Capanelli for a power play tally to extend Stevenson's lead to 4-0.

New England (1-11) avoided the shutout at 17:08 when Morgan Braniff scored her second goal of the season off a feed from Lindsey Stewart to cut the Mustang advantage to three heading into the third period.

After five goals over the first two periods, the third saw just one despite seven penalties, including five on Stevenson as Webber capped the scoring with her second goal of the game at 14:04 off assists from sophomores Megan Donahue and Katie Abbott.

The Mustangs outshot the Pilgrims 30-25 and won 36 faceoffs while sophomore Sarah Modzelewski made 24 saves, including 12 in the third period, to earn her team-leading third victory this season.

Stevenson and New England conclude their two-game season series on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
