Box Score SALEM, Va. - Stevenson men's lacrosse junior Chris Dashiell (Salisbury, Md./Parkside) totaled a season-high six points with three goals and three assists, but Richard Lachlan scored the game-tying and game-winning goals with 1:20 remaining in the fourth quarter and overtime to lift No. 16 Roanoke to a 14-13 victory Tuesday night at Kerr Stadium.
The Mustangs (11-2) suffered their first loss in three overtime games this season and the first since a 14-13 loss at Salisbury on May 23, 2010 in the semifinals of the NCAA Division III Men's Lacrosse Championship.
Stevenson is now 4-4 in overtime games in nine seasons under head coach Paul Cantabene.
Tuesday's game featured three ties and four lead changes. The largest lead for either team was three goals as the Mustangs led 4-1 with 14:53 left in the second quarter and 9-6 with 11:24 to play in the third.
Lachlan, who finished with five points and four goals, netted the final three for the Maroons (9-3), including his second at the 10:10 mark of the third quarter to give Roanoke its largest lead at 12-10.
Man-up goals by sophomore Mark Pannenton (Niskayuna, N.Y./Niskayuna) and senior Tyler Reid (Clinton, Conn./Xavier) tied the game at 12-12 before Dashiell's third tally gave the Mustangs a 13-12 advantage with just 3:50 remaining in the fourth quarter.
However, Lachlan tied the game with a man-up goal with 1:20 left in regulation before netting the game-winning with 1:20 remaining in overtime.
In five career meetings against the Mustangs, Lachlan has totaled nine points, including six goals and two-game winning goals. He also scored the game-winning goal the last time these two teams met, scoring with just 14 seconds remaining in regulation to give the Maroons a 13-12 victory at Caves Athletics Complex in the quarterfinals of the 2011 NCAA Division III Men's Lacrosse Championship.
Roanoke mustered just one first-quarter goal against freshman Dimitri Pecunes (Baltimore, Md./Calvert Hall) and trailed 3-1 before Pecunes left the game with 2:11 left in the opening quarter after suffering a shoulder injury.
The Maroons scored its final 13 goals against sophomore Kevin Cain (Rocky Point, N.Y./Rocky Point) who stopped a career-high nine shots over the final 49:51. Prior to tonight, Cain had played just 46:28 in four appearances this season.
Stevenson controlled the game statistically, outshooting Roanoke 56-44, winning 23-of-31 face-offs and scoring on 5-of-6 man-up opportunities, but the Maroons capitalized on 13 second-half turnovers, two of which came in overtime.
Pannenton and Reid each finished with three goals while senior Peter Green (Hereford, Md./Hereford) also had three points with a goal and two assists. Senior Parker Bratton (Baltimore, Md./McDonogh) led the defense with five ground balls and three caused turnovers.
Conner DuBois added three goals for Roanoke while Joey Dishaw had two goals and one assist. Brayden Gerrie had three caused turnovers and Charles Pease totaled 17 saves.
Stevenson returns to action on Saturday with a Commonwealth Conference contest versus Albright at Mustang Stadium beginning at 7:00 p.m.
