Five First-Quarter Goals Carry Mustangs to 11-5 Win at Hampden-Sydney

Box Score

HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, Va. - Led by two goals each from senior Tyler Reid (Clinton, Conn./Xavier) and junior Chris Dashiell (Salisbury, Md./Parkside), the Stevenson men's lacrosse team scored the game's first six goals, including five in the first quarter, as the No. 3-ranked Mustangs posted an 11-5 victory over Hampden-Sydney Saturday at Lewis C. Everett Stadium.

Stevenson (2-0) posted their second win in as many years against the Tigers after a 9-6 victory at Mustang Stadium on Feb. 25, 2012.

Reid and Dashiell each finished with four goals, combining for four of the team's first six as the Mustangs built a 6-0 lead with 27 seconds remaining in the second quarter.

Stevenson led 2-0 just 50 seconds into the game after goals by sophomore Mark Pannenton (Niskayuna, N.Y./Niskayuna) and sophomore Sam Wyatt (Brentwood, Tenn./Human Services) only five seconds apart.

Led by a goal and two assists from Ryan Martin, the Tigers (1-1) scored three-straight goals to cut their deficit in half with 9:51 left in the third quarter.

However, that would be as close as Hampden-Sydney would get as the Mustangs scored five of the game's final seven goals, including two more each by Reid and Dashiell.

Dashiell scored four points for the second consecutive game after totaling a goal and three assists in the team's 17-11 win over Nazareth in its season opener last Saturday.

Senior Peter Green (Hereford, Md./Hereford) scored a career-high three points with three assists while Wyatt and sophomore Michael Crowe (Arlington, Va./Yorktown) both netted goals for the second-straight game.

Stevenson held a 42-22 advantage in shots and won 10-of-17 face-offs while freshman Dimitri Pecunes (Baltimore, Md./Calvert Hall) made eight saves in winning his second career start.

Martin finished with two goals and two assists for the Tigers while James Hughes also scored twice. Cody Hornung had three saves in the first 11 minutes before being replaced by David Noftsinger who had eight over the final 49.

Stevenson hosts sixth-ranked RIT on Wednesday at Mustang Stadium beginning at 7:00 p.m.
