Poor Shooting Plagues Mustangs in 54-45 CAC Road Loss at Wesley

Box Score

DOVER, Del. - The Stevenson women's basketball team shot just 28.1 percent from the floor, going 18-for-64, including 2-for-13 from three-point range, while hitting only 7-of-15 attempts from the free throw line as the Mustangs dropped a CAC contest on the road at Wesley Wednesday inside Wentworth Gymnasium, 54-45.

Stevenson (6-9, 2-5 CAC) trailed by as many as 15 points at the start of the second half before a 23-10 run cut its deficit to two, 46-44 with 2:36 remaining on a lay-up by freshman Kyarra Harmon (Waldorf, Md./North Point).

However, that would be as close as the Mustangs would get as the Wolverines (3-11, 2-5 CAC) finished the game on a 8-1 run with three points coming at the free throw line in the last 33 seconds.

Stevenson trailed by 11 points at halftime after Wesley closed the first half on a 12-2 run over the final 4:55. During the run, the Mustangs were 1-for-5 from the floor and totaled five of their 11 turnovers.

Jazmine Miller and Rachelle Allen combined for 21 of the Wolverines' 32 points while playing all 20 minutes. Miller also had nine rebounds.

Stevenson held Wesley to just 22 second-half points, limiting Miller and Allen to just four.

Junior Sam Murray (Reisterstown, Md./St. Paul's School for Girls) led the Mustangs with 11 points, five rebounds and four assists while senior Amanda Craig (Wilmington, Del./St. Elizabeth) had seven points and six rebounds. Senior Katey Briggs (Wilmington, Del./Padua Academy) had four points on 2-of-3 shooting.

Harmon led Stevenson with eight rebounds.

Allen had a game-high 14 points to go along with five assists for the Wolverines who snapped a five-game losing streak and a four-game CAC skid. Miller posted a double double with 11 points and a game-high 14 rebounds. She also added six assists.

The Mustangs travel to second-place York (Pa.) on Wednesday. Tip-off is at 6:00 p.m.
