The Stevenson Mustangs women's basketball team battled from start to finish on Saturday afternoon but came up short in a road test at No. 8, Washington and Lee, falling 68–45 at the Duchossois Athletic & Recreation Center.
Stevenson came out sharp in the opening quarter, trading baskets early and matching the Generals' pace.
Anaya Price knocked down a three-pointer to give the Mustangs an early boost, while
Janiya Ennis followed with a pair of strong jumpers to keep the game level. The Mustangs showed hustle on both ends, forcing turnovers and converting inside looks as the quarter featured multiple lead changes.
Aliyah Jean-Jacques capped the opening period with a late basket in the paint, keeping Stevenson within striking distance at 23–20 after one.
The second quarter saw Washington and Lee string together a scoring run, but Stevenson continued to fight through defensive pressure.
Tessa Boswell drilled a three-pointer midway through the frame, and
Elia Richardson answered with a triple of her own to halt the momentum.
Nadia Ferguson added a tough finish inside, while the Mustangs worked to generate second-chance opportunities. Despite the effort, Washington and Lee extended its lead to 43–31 at the break.
Stevenson tightened up defensively coming out of halftime, forcing tough shots and contesting every possession. The Mustangs blocked several attempts in the third quarter and continued to battle on the glass. Jean-Jacques and
Sanaa Thorne combined for key interior baskets as Stevenson looked to cut into the deficit, but Washington and Lee maintained its advantage heading into the final period.
In the fourth quarter, the Mustangs continued to compete with energy and depth contributions off the bench. Price attacked the lane and Richardson added scoring at the rim, while Stevenson's defense stayed active with steals and deflections. The Mustangs never backed down, playing hard through the final horn and gaining valuable experience against an undefeated opponent.
Stevenson returns home for its next contest on Tuesday, December 16 at 5:00 p.m., hosting Gettysburg in Owings Mills as the Mustangs look to bounce back and defend their home court.
