Owings Mills, Md. (December 16) – The Stevenson women's basketball team put together several strong stretches and competitive runs, but ultimately fell to Gettysburg, 82–66, Tuesday evening at Owings Mills Gymnasium in a non-conference match up.
Gettysburg opened the game with an early surge, but Stevenson responded quickly. After falling behind in the opening minutes, the Mustangs found their rhythm behind
Anaya Price, who attacked the lane and knocked down shots from deep to keep the game within reach. Despite the effort, Gettysburg carried a 23–12 edge after the first quarter.
The second quarter saw Stevenson settle in offensively. Price continued to heat up from beyond the arc, while
Janiya Ennis facilitated the offense and helped generate quality looks. The Mustangs matched Gettysburg shot-for-shot for much of the period and trimmed the deficit with improved ball movement and defensive pressure. Stevenson went into halftime trailing 49–31 but showed momentum heading into the break.
Coming out of the locker room, the Mustangs delivered one of their best stretches of the night. Stevenson opened the third quarter with renewed energy, forcing turnovers and converting on the offensive end. Price again led the charge, while contributions from
Tessa Boswell and
Sanaa Thorne helped the Mustangs win the quarter, 19–14, and cut into the Gettysburg lead.
Stevenson continued to battle in the fourth, trading baskets and refusing to back down. The Mustangs remained aggressive on both ends of the floor, capitalizing at the free-throw line and knocking down timely shots. Though Gettysburg maintained control down the stretch, Stevenson closed the game with determination, scoring 16 points in the final frame.
Price led all Mustangs with a game-high 24 points, highlighted by five three-pointers, while Ennis added 10 points and five assists. Boswell chipped in eight points, and Thorne provided energy off the bench on both ends of the court.
Stevenson will look to build on the positives from Tuesday's performance as the Mustangs return to action on Monday, December 29th at 5:00 p.m. in the BW Holiday Classic, hosted by Baldwin Wallace University.
