Bridgewater, Va. (November 18) - The Stevenson Mustangs battled through a gritty road matchup on Tuesday evening at Nininger Hall, ultimately falling 51–44 to Bridgewater, but not before showcasing stretches of poised, energetic basketball that kept the Eagles on their heels.
Stevenson came out firing in the opening quarter, setting the tone with early defensive pressure and confident perimeter shooting.
Tessa Boswell opened the scoring with a smooth three off a kick-out from
Nadia Ferguson, sparking an 8–2 Mustang run.
Kalea Wynter dominated the glass early, turning second-chance opportunities into points with a strong put-back tip-in moments later.
Janiya Ennis added a deep three of her own, and the Mustangs closed the quarter up 18–13—controlling the tempo and momentum.
The Mustangs continued their sharp play in the second frame. Ennis knocked down a jumper to start the quarter, and Wynter followed with another mid-range bucket after pulling down an offensive board.
Destiny Towns and
Elia Richardson added key scoring off the bench, including a Richardson three from the right wing to extend the lead. By halftime, the Mustangs had built a commanding 36–21 advantage, powered by relentless rebounding and composed half-court execution.
Bridgewater made a push coming out of the break, but Stevenson's defense held firm. Wynter swatted away multiple attempts in the paint, and Boswell, Ferguson, and Price each came up with important rebounds to stall Eagle possessions. Though the lid tightened offensively in the third, the Mustangs continued to battle through the final quarter, getting to the rim and creating pressure plays.
Anaya Price and Wynter converted key shots down the stretch, and Stevenson's defensive intensity never wavered, despite falling short 51-44.
The Mustangs return home for a Blackout-themed showdown against Trinity Washington (D.C.) on Friday, November 21 at 7:00 p.m. for their home-opener. Fans are encouraged to wear black and bring the energy to support Stevenson under the lights.
