Chestertown, Md. (November 25) - The Stevenson Mustangs delivered an energetic, play-by-play effort Tuesday night in Chestertown, showing grit and resilience in a tightly contested match up at Penny J. Fall Gymnasium before coming up just short, 59-54, against Washington College
Stevenson struck first with crisp ball movement and early defensive pressure, as
Anaya Price drained a three-pointer to put the Mustangs on the board and set the tone for an aggressive opening stretch.
Janiya Ennis followed with a strong finish in the paint off a turnover forced by the Mustangs' active hands, helping Stevenson take early control.
Washington responded, but Stevenson answered every run.
Elia Richardson knocked down a transition three in the second quarter, and
Destiny Towns created second-chance opportunities with relentless offensive rebounding, keeping the Mustangs within striking distance at the half .
Coming out of the break, Stevenson surged. Price connected from deep again to swing momentum, while
Tessa Boswell buried a late third-quarter triple to briefly give the Mustangs the edge . The Mustangs' defense forced multiple turnovers during the run, capitalized by quick scores in transition.
The final period featured back-and-forth drama.
Nadia Ferguson attacked the lane and converted from the line, while Richardson continued to stretch the floor with perimeter shooting to keep Stevenson even down the stretch . Stevenson had chances in the final minute, but Washington College's free throws proved just enough to seal the narrow decision.
Stevenson will look to build on the performance when it returns to action at Salisbury on Wednesday, Dec. 3, with tip-off scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
