TOWSON, Md. - Stevenson men's lacrosse junior
Richie Ford (Baltimore/Towson) tied a career-high
with nine points, including a career-high five assists, to lead the
No. 2-ranked Mustangs to their 22nd consecutive regular season
victory, 18-7 over Lycoming Saturday night at Towson University's
Johnny Unitas Stadium.
It was also the third win for Stevenson (5-0) in as many games
at Towson after a 24-4 victory against Kean on February 27 and a
12-2 decision over Alvernia on Mar. 8, 2005.
The reigning CAC Player of the Week, Ford also totaled a
career-high nine points and six goals in a 17-6 win over Ursinus on
Mar. 8, 2008. Earlier this season, he had a career-high four
assists in a 20-10 win over RIT on March 3.
The school record for points in a game is 12 set by Bob
Rineheimer in an 18-9 win over Lycoming on Mar. 31, 2001.
After some slow starts this season, the Mustangs took control of
Saturday's game from the start with six first quarter goals. In its
previous four games, the team combined for just eight goals.
Ford and junior Jimmy Dailey (Westminster/Winters
Mill) had a hand in five of Stevenson's first six goals as
Ford had a goal and an assist while Dailey totaled one goal and two
assists. Dailey finished the game with a season-high six points on
three goals and three assists.
Ford scored with 5:54 remaining in the second quarter before
assisting on Dailey's first goal of the second half with 14:18 left
in the third quarter to give the Mustangs an 8-2 lead.
Ford had a hand in five-straight Stevenson goals, beginning with
his third of the game with 4:26 to play in the third quarter as the
team pushed its lead to 12 at 16-4.
Senior Steve Kazimer (Syracuse, N.Y./Henninger)
finished with five points and four goals as the All-American attack
trio of Ford, Dailey and Kazimer totaled 11 of the Mustangs' 18
goals. They also combined for nine of the team's 10 assists.
Junior transfer Nick Lewnes (Annapolis/St.
Mary's) scored his first goal as a Mustang in the fourth
quarter while senior Sean Calabrese
(Rockvile/DeMatha) and junior Kyle Moffitt
(Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin East) had two goals each.
Senior Geoff Hebert (Lutherville/Dulaney)
finished with nine saves while counterpart Alan Antinarelli had 15
for Lycoming.
Nate Walter led the Warriors (2-3), who were receiving votes in
this week's USILA Division III Poll, with three goals.
Stevenson wraps up its five-game homestand on Wednesday when it
hosts No. 13 Stevens on St. Patrick's Day beginning at 4:00 p.m.,
at Caves Athletics Complex.
