STEVENSON, Md. - An 11-0 run over the final
four minutes of the first half and a 15-4 spurt to start the second
half proved to be the key for Wesley as it rallied from a first
half deficit en route to a 49-34 victory over Stevenson Saturday at
Student Union Gymnasium.
The win was the 12th in the last 15 games for the Wolverines
(16-9, 10-6 CAC) who will be the third-seed and host a first round
game in next week's CAC Women's Basketball Championship. It was
also their sixth-straight against Stevenson.
Wesley trailed 18-16 with 4:09 remaining in the first half
before a 26-4 run gave the team a commanding 44-22 advantage with
10:23 left in the second. During that time, the Mustangs (5-18,
3-13 CAC) missed eight consecutive shots and were just 3-of-22 from
the floor.
Stevenson shot 25.0 percent from the floor for the game and were
5-of-25 in the second half while being outrebounded 26-19 and
totaling nine turnovers.
Sophomore guard Daniela Poss (Brookeville/Good
Counsel) led the Mustangs with six points and four
rebounds while freshman guard Sam Murray (Reisterstown/St.
Paul's) added four points and a career-high eight
rebounds.
Angie Owens had 10 points and eight rebounds for Wesley, both
game-highs. Allison Beddia also had 10 points and Jasmine Barksdale
finished with seven rebounds.
