OWINGS MILLS, Md. - The Stevenson University
men's lacrosse team scored 12 consecutive goals and held Mary
Washington scoreless for a stretch of 30:39 as the No. 3-ranked
Mustangs blew open a competitive game en route to their
ninth-straight regular season win, 17-4 Saturday at the Caves
Athletics Complex.
With the win, Stevenson (6-0, 2-0 CAC) tied the school record
for most consecutive wins to start a season, tying them with the
2007 squad that also went 6-0 before losing at No. 8 Washington
(Md.) on March 21.
The Mustangs have also not lost a regular season game since
dropping a 13-12 decision to No. 1 Salisbury at home on Apr. 5,
2008 and are unbeaten in their last six at home.
Sophomore Jimmy Dailey (Westminster/Winter
Mills) led the way with three goals and three assists, his
second multi-goal game of the season. He also tied his season in
assists for the fourth time.
Junior Nic Bevacqua (Booton Township, N.J./Mountain
Lakes) had three goals and one assist marking his third
game out of the last four with three goals.
Junior Steve Kazimer (Syracuse, N.Y./Henninger)
added one goal and two assists.
Mary Washington (4-3, 0-2 CAC) held its only lead of the game
for only 44 seconds when Charlie White scored the game's first
goal off an assist from Kohl Meyer with 11:21 remaining in the
first quarter.
Bevacqua would then net the first of five-straight goals
for the Mustangs at 10:28 to tie the game before adding his
second with 11:08 left in the half to cap the run and give them a
5-1 lead.
Brent Fisk and Brian Deal would each net goals in the final
nine-plus minutes for the Eagles who cut their deficit to two
at halftime, 5-3.
However, Stevenson would blow the game open by scoring the
next 12-straight goals, outscoring Mary Washington 8-0 in the third
quarter and netting the first four of the fourth quarter.
Sean Brown would finally end the streak when he scored off an
assist from Evan Weiss with only 1:28 remaining in the
game.
The Mustangs doubled up the Eagles in shots 48-24 and forced 26
turnovers while killing off all eight of their extra man
opportunities.
Junior Geoff Hebert (Lutherville/Dulaney)
posted double digit saves for the third consecutive game with 10.
Ryan Kleman had 14 saves for Eagles.
Stevenson continues its four-game homestand on Tuesday when it
hosts the College of Wooster in a non-conference game beginning at
1:00 p.m. Fans are encouraged to wear green in support of the
Mustangs and in honor of St. Patrick's Day.
