VJC remains undefeated with 12-4 win over Eagles

Owings  Mills, Md.-  The Mustangs celebrated St. Patrick's day defeating CAC foe, the Eagles of Mary Washington.  Goalie, Jason Woodford (Timonium, MD/ Dulaney/ Drew) faced 15 shots and had 9 saves to earn the 12-4 win. 

Junior Nicola Bevacqua (Booton Township, NJ/ Mt. Lakes) put the Mustangs on the board 1-0 with an assist by Zach Walsh (Reisterstown, MD/Loyola HS) at 5:30 in the first period.  The Eagles scored with 2:00 left in the period but Villa's Chris Baldwin (Baltimore, MD/Calvert Hall/ USNA) scored shortly after that to give the Mustangs the lead 2-1 at the end of the period.

Mary Washington tied the game 2-2 at the beginning of the second period.  Villa then went on a scoring run with an unassisted goal by Greg Furshman (Miami, FL/ Towson University) at 9:11, followed by goals by Matthew Miller (Denver, CO/ George Washington HS/ Essex CC) assisted by Jimmy Dailey (Westminster, MD/ Winter Mills) and Dustin Harlowe (Golden Beach, MD/ St. Mary's Ryken) assisted by Matt Healy (Harrisburg, PA/ Harrisburg/ Essex CC).  The Eagles put one more in the net before the half to make the score Villa 5, Mary Washington 3. 

The Eagles would only score one more goal in the second half before the game time ran out. In the third period, VJC's Dailey began the scoring run after netting his first goal with an assist by Healy. The half continued with six more goals to put the Mustangs further ahead before the Eagles scored their final goal with 2:52 remaining in the game. Leading the Mustangs was Furshman with 3 goals, one assist; followed by Andrew White (Cockeysville, MD/Loyola HS), Matt Miller, and Dustin Harlowe (Golden Beach, MD/St. Mary's Ryken HS), each with 2 goals. Overall, the Mustangs led with 41 shots, 42 ground balls, and seven fewer turnovers.

The win brings the Mustangs to 6-0 overall, 5-0 in the CAC. The team is on the road, Wednesday, March 21, to take on Washington College at 7 p.m.
