ARLINGTON, Va. - Marymount (Va.) scored 50
points in the paint and received 38 points from its bench as the
Saints snapped a two-game losing streak with an 82-66 victory over
the Stevenson men's basketball team Friday night at Verizon Sports
Arena.
Freshman guard Jason Scroggins (Baltimore/Boys'
Latin) led the Mustangs (2-20, 2-11 CAC) with 13 points
while junior forward Patrick Lewis
(Timonium/Dulaney) added 12 points, five rebounds and
three blocks.
The Saints (12-9, 7-5 CAC) opened the game with an 11-2 run
before Stevenson rallied to tie the game at 14-14 with 10:23
remaining in the first half.
Four different players scored during the Mustangs' 12-3 spurt,
including freshman guard Laron Knight (Waldorf/Thomas
Stone) who scored five of his career-high seven points.
Marymount pushed the lead back to seven on two separate
occasions before taking a 30-28 halftime advantage.
After an evenly played first half, the Saints outscored
Stevenson, 23-12 over the first 10 minutes of the second half to
take a 13-point lead before an 18-5 run gave them their largest
lead of the game at 20 points after the Mustangs cut the deficit to
seven.
Marymount scored 26 of their 52 second-half points, or exactly
half, in the paint while also posting 26 off the bench. The team
finished the game with a 47-30 edge in rebounding and went 19-of-32
from the free throw line.
Elvis Ellis totaled 19 points and 12 rebounds to lead the
Saints, both game-highs, while Tarek Ammoury added 16 points and
seven rebounds.
Stevenson looks to rebound on Saturday when it travels to rival
Salisbury. Game time is at 4:00 p.m.
