Owings Mills, Md. (January 31) — The Stevenson Mustangs delivered one of their most complete performances of the season Saturday afternoon, pulling away in the second half for an emphatic 88–72 MAC Commonwealth victory over Alvernia inside the Owings Mills Gymnasium.
Stevenson weathered an early push from the Golden Wolves, who briefly grabbed the lead in the opening minutes, before the Mustangs settled in behind strong interior play and active defense.
Kole Beaman got Stevenson on the board with a pair of early baskets, while
Noah Ihezue converted a second-chance layup to swing momentum back to the home side. A late first-half surge — capped by a transition three from
Myles Jackson and a fast-break jumper from Beaman — sent Stevenson into the break with a 39–35 advantage.
The Mustangs wasted no time extending the lead after halftime. Beaman knocked down a fast-break three in the opening minute of the second half, and Stevenson followed with a series of stops that fueled an offensive run.
Jelani Lee sparked the stretch with a pair of steals that turned into quick points, while
David Pridgen connected from beyond the arc to give Stevenson a multi-possession cushion.
Midway through the half, Stevenson took firm control. Lee buried a three off a turnover, Beaman added a turnaround jumper in the lane, and Pridgen threw down a fast-break dunk to ignite the home crowd as the Mustangs pushed the lead into double digits. Stevenson's defensive pressure continued to pay dividends, forcing turnovers that turned into easy scoring opportunities.
In the closing minutes, the Mustangs put the finishing touches on the win at the free-throw line and in transition. Stevenson outscored Alvernia 49–37 in the second half, showcasing balance, ball movement, and energy on both ends to secure the 88–72 victory.
Stevenson will return to the road for its next contest, traveling to Hood for a 7:00 p.m. MAC Commonwealth match up on Wednesday, January 4.
