Stevenson's athletic trainer, Emily Finnessy will spend her summer training for the New York City Marathon running for the Young Survival Coalition's mission this November. Finnessy decided to fundraise towards this charity because of a personal connection. "I am running to help raise funds for YSC's mission, to celebrate my aunts (Peg and Shelly) who have survived breast cancer, and in memory of my cousin Ashlee Malonowski," stated Finnessy. "In May of 2025, Ashlee lost her 2-year battle with breast cancer at the age of 35 and is survived by her husband and her three young children. Her experience showcases how uniquely challenging breast cancer can be for young adults - balancing treatment with careers, parenting, and everyday life."
Young Survival Coalition supports the young breast cancer community and ignites global collaboration to improve quality of life worldwide. "Through raising funds and awareness, I hope to support others facing similar journeys and expand access to the resources and community they deserve." Finnessy explained.Â
Being a part of the sports medicine field, Finnessy already takes care of others everyday while helping them reach their physical goals and support their mental health as well. Finding the time to load on heavy training for this marathon can be challenging for Finnessy. "While training for this experience, my goal is to remember this is something I GET to do, not something I have to do and to use my training as a rewarding time for me, not as a punishment," mentioned Finnessy. "Even on the days that are long and hard, I'm hopeful that remaining strong between the ears and knowing I can do more than I think along with proper planning and fueling, will keep me on track!"Â
Finnessy, who previously competed at the Division III level, enjoys running because it's a way she gets to remain active after her collegiate years. "My relationship with and love for running has only grown over the years, and it has become part of my daily / weekly routine." Finnessy said. "It is a way for me to center and push myself physically and mentally. I am so excited and honored to be able to participate in such an amazing event where I get to run alongside other people with the same goal and be able to race for and represent an organization I believe in, connect with, and support."Â

Finnessy will also be running the Honolulu Marathon in December for another charity, Korey Stringer Institute (KSI) that supports research, education, and advocacy on preventing sudden death in sport and in active individuals.Â
