Jerez named Assistant Director, Campus Recreation & Esports

OWINGS MILLS, Md. – Bringing more than a decade of collegiate recreation experience to Stevenson, Senior Associate Athletics Director, Internal Operations & Recreation Matt Grimm announced the hiring of Roger Jerez as the Assistant Director of Campus Recreation and Esports on Monday.

"We are excited to add Roger to the Mustang family. His extensive experience in both the competitive and non-competitive aspects of collegiate recreation set him apart during the search process," said Grimm. "I'm excited to see him elevate what we are doing in the Esports, Club Sports and Fitness areas here at Stevenson."

Jerez joins Stevenson from the University of Pennsylvania, where he served as the Assistant Director of Campus Recreation-Competitive Sports for the past five years. In his role, he managed the budget, travel and operations for 38 club sport programs. During his tenure, he oversaw more than 80 domestic trips and helped increase program revenue by 48 percent.

While at Penn, Jerez also oversaw more than 50 home competitions and over 60 weekly practices across the club sport programs. He introduced partnerships with JMI and Penn Sport Properties for championship merchandise and established a club sports sponsorship program.

Prior to Penn, Jerez spent four years at the University of Delaware as the Intramural Sports Coordinator. While with the Blue Hens, he organized an annual esports tournament as part of the intramural program. He also worked closely with the Athletics Marketing department to increase visual content for intramural programs while supporting the daily operations of more than 100 student employees.

Jerez began his career in Campus Recreation at Georgia Southern University, serving as a Graduate Assistant for Intramurals and Club Sports. During his time at Georgia Southern, he recruited, trained and evaluated more than 150 student staff members, including supervisors and officials. He also played a key role in scheduling more than 23 team sports, individual sports and special events serving over 5,000 participants.

"I'm excited to join Stevenson and help grow both the Campus Recreation and Esports programs into something that draws students to the University," said Jerez. "I'm looking forward to investing in the students, coaches and staff here and building something special together."

Jerez holds a master's degree in education from Georgia Southern University and a bachelor's degree in history from the University of South Florida.
