Box Score OWINGS MILLS, Md. -- Stevenson women's soccer withstood a quick start from visiting Widener, eventually posting two second half goals during a 2-1 home triumph in Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Commonwealth play on Tuesday at Mustang Stadium.
Senior keeper Keegan Caffrey was sharp once again for Stevenson (4-4-5, 2-0-1 MAC Commonwealth) with eight more saves, while Olivia Stephen and Michelle Mesquita cashed in on second half tallies for the Mustangs. Meanwhile, Widener (6-4, 1-2 MAC Commonwealth) will look to regroup after striking first just under 17 minutes in and holding a 21-9 edge in shots on the night.
- Widener held possession early and often, rifling four attempts before finding the goal in the 17th minute. Charging in from the left side, Widener's Alyssa Carman ripped a shot off the short post that deflected back off Caffrey and in.
- The Pride continued tilting the field in their direction as the half wore on. Taylor Reider responded with a chance for the Mustangs in the 30th minute, pushing the attempt left.
- Widener countered with another quality look, this one off the foot of Emily Schall, who rang it off the right post in the 39th minte.
- The Mustangs had the opening chance of the second half, with Mesquita sending a low shot into the waiting arms of Widener keeper Samantha Coon in the 51st minute.
- Each side went back and forth, trading offensive chances over the next few minutes.
- Caffrey tracked down a save following a Carman attempt in the 64th minute, one of several big stops of the precocious Widener striker.
- Off a foul just outside the box, Stevenson converted on the free kick chance as Stephen stepped into her team-leading fourth goal of the season in the 65th minute.
- After a hard collision sent Allison Arters to the turf, a yellow card was issued to Stevenson before a red card followed on the Mustang bench for dissent in the 71st minute.
- Stevenson earned a corner opportunity nearly five minutes later, making the most of it for the lead. Cassidy Butler looped the corner ball into traffic, finding the head of Mesquita, who blasted home a top-shelf marker for a 2-1 advantage in the 77th minute.
- The Pride could not place any of their final attempts on target as Stevenson escaped with a one-goal conference win.
- Stevenson closed the gap in shots on the night after being outshot 13-3 in the opening half.
