ALLENTOWN, Pa. – Stevenson women's soccer mounted a second-half push but fell just short against Muhlenberg, 2-1, on Friday evening at Jeff Morris '82 Field.
Muhlenberg opened the scoring in the 11th minute when they converted a penalty kick to give the Mules a 1-0 advantage. Stevenson goalkeeper Isabella Serano helped keep the deficit at one throughout the remainder of the opening half, making two saves. Kailyn Beall registered Stevenson's lone shot on goal of the opening 45 minutes.
Serano came up with another key stop early in the second half, denying the Mules on a penalty kick in the 51st minute. However, Muhlenberg extended its lead just over two minutes later, putting the Mules ahead 2-0.
The Mustangs responded in the 66th minute. Karly Sheahan set up Beall, who found the back of the net to cut the Muhlenberg advantage to 2-1. The goal marked Beall's first collegiate goal, while Sheahan picked up her first assist of the season.
Stevenson continued to apply pressure following the goal. Sheahan put an attempt on frame in the 71st minute before the Mustangs earned back-to-back corner kicks.
The Mustangs generated two more attempts in the closing eight minutes, including a shot from Courtney Keehner in the 83rd minute and an attempt from Sheahan in the 87th, but were unable to find the equalizer.
Beall led Stevenson with three shots, placing two on goal and scoring the Mustangs' lone goal. Sheahan recorded a team-high four shots along with the assist. Serano played all 90 minutes in goal and finished with seven saves.
The Mustangs return to action Wednesday, September 9th, when they travel to St. Mary's for a 7 p.m. kickoff.
