Box Score

REISTERSTOWN, Md. - For just the second time in program history, the Stevenson women's ice hockey team allowed four power-play goals as Sacred Heart scored five second period goals en route to 6-1 win over the Mustangs Saturday evening at Reisterstown Sportsplex.

The Mustangs (9-9-0), who have dropped four straight for the first time since the 2013-14 season, fall to 6-5-2 against Sacred Heart after going unbeaten in seven consecutive games in the series before the weekend.

Stevenson committed 10 penalties for 20 minutes in the game after entering the weekend averaging just 7.4 penalty minutes per game. It is the second most penalties committed by the team this season after committing 14 in the season opener.

The Pioneers (16-8-1) scored a five-on-three power-play goal just 16 seconds after the Mustangs committed the second penalty. It was the only goal of the opening period as Sacred Heart outshot Stevenson, 9-7.

Sacred Heart added two power-play goals to build a 3-0 lead in the second period but freshman Jordan Pirrello notched her fourth goal of the season after putting in a rebound in front of the net. Junior Natalie Rosendahl and sophomore Allie Sabatini were credited with the assists.

Another power-play goal put the visitors lead back to three before the Pioneers converted on a penalty shot after Stevenson committed a penalty on a breakaway opportunity for Sacred Heart. The final goal of the game came as time expired in the second period.

Sophomore Caitie Darosa finished with 14 saves before giving way to freshman Annie Smyth-Hammond who recorded five.

The Mustangs outshot Sacred Heart, 26-25 while winning 30 f the 54 face-offs. Junior Chelsea Ellis won 11 of her 15 face-offs.

Stevenson returns to action on Friday, February 3 when the Mustangs face Salem State in a Colonial Hockey Conference beginning at 7:00 p.m.
