READING, Pa. – The Stevenson University women's ice hockey team (4-17-1 overall, 4-13-1 MAC) dropped a 4-1 decision to Alvernia University (12-9-0 overall, 11-8-0 MAC) on Friday afternoon.
Alvernia struck first with an early goal in the opening period, but Abby Smith capitalized on a Mustang power-play opportunity to even the score. Carleigh Barwick and Meghan Croyle were credited with assists on the equalizer.
The Golden Wolves regained the lead in the second period and added two more goals in the third to secure the 4-1 victory.
Stevenson held a 36-27 advantage in shots on goal. Emma DeMan led the Mustangs at the face-off dot, winning 14 of Stevenson's 24 total face-off victories. Emily Carson recorded 23 saves in net.
The Mustangs return home Saturday to host Lebanon Valley College as part of Senior Day festivities. Puck drop is scheduled for 3 p.m.
