Mustangs Shutout at Home Versus Division I Sacred Heart

Box Score

REISTERSTOWN, Md. - For the fourth time this season and second time at home, the Stevenson women's ice hockey team was held scoreless in a 3-0 non-conference loss versus Division I Sacred Heart Friday evening at Reisterstown Sportsplex.

The Mustangs (9-8-0), who have been held to just one goal over the last three games, were shutout for the second straight game, marking the first time in program history the team has been held scoreless in back-to-back games.

Neither team found the back of the net in the opening period, as the Pioneers (15-8-1) held a 15-5 advantage in shots. It was the 11th time Stevenson has been held to five shots or less in a period with the team posting a 1-7-0 record in those games.

A tripping penalty on Sacred Heart early in the opening period gave the Mustangs the game's first power-play opportunity but the hosts failed to record a shot during the player advantage.

The Pioneers scored just 1:42 into the second period to break the scoreless tie before Stevenson outshot Sacred Heart, 11-3 the rest of the period. Devan Kane knocked away all 11 shots by the Mustangs to keep the visitors lead at one going into the second intermission.

Jayne Lewis gave Sacred Heart a two-goal lead at the 6:18 mark of the third period before Carly Radovich notched her second goal of the game to give the Pioneers a 3-0 lead with 8:07 remaining in regulation.

The Mustangs committed just one penalty and improved to 55-for-58 on the penalty kill but failed to score on their four power-play opportunities.

Juniors Monica Pozuc and Natalie Rosendahl each recorded two blocked shots.

Stevenson returns to action on Saturday, January 21 when the Mustangs and Pioneers face-off in the second of a two-game series. Puck drop is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
