Box Score MILWAUKEE, Wis. - The Stevenson men's volleyball team hit just .159 but the eighth-ranked Mustangs totaled 19 total blocks with a 27-25, 25-23, 14-25, 26-24 victory over No. 10 MSOE Sunday morning at Kern Center.
The Mustangs (19-6), who improved to 6-3 over ranked teams this season, tied last season's win total with five regular season games remaining. The team is seven wins shy of tying the program record for wins in a season set in 2011 and 2013.
Neither team led by more than three during the first set as they combined for 34 kills, including 20 by the host Raiders (13-5). But MSOE committed seven errors compared to four for Stevenson, including three consecutive to close the set.
The second set was similar to the first but the Mustangs once again pulled away late, taking three of the final four points with two coming on kills by junior Michael Fehrs. Fehrs finished with a team-high 12 kills while adding eight digs and two block assists.
MSOE avoided the sweep and easily won the third set as the Raiders hit .424 in the set compared to a .049 hitting percentage by Stevenson. The Raiders finished with 16 kills compared to just two errors.
Trailing by three in the fourth set, the Mustangs won 12 og the final 20 points, including three of the last four. Four of the final six points for Stevenson come on errors by the Raiders.
Freshman Landon Shorts totaled seven kills, 15 digs, two solo blocks and a service ace while senior Patrick Schuyler finished with nine kills. Freshman Owen Terroso recorded nine digs.
Stevenson concludes its Midwest trip on Monday, March 14 when the Mustangs travel to Marian (Wis.) to face the host Sabres and Lakeland beginning at 4:30 p.m.
