Owings Mills, Md. (March 29) — The Stevenson Mustangs delivered a commanding performance Sunday afternoon, sweeping King's (Pa.) in straight sets, 3–0, inside Owings Mills Gymnasium to secure the MAC victory.
Set 1: Stevenson came out sharp, jumping to an early 6–1 lead behind kills from
Corwin Trouteaud and
Adam DeRubertis, along with a service run from
Lance Simon that forced early King's errors.
Kevin Kouchoukos added back-to-back service aces to extend the advantage to 9–3, putting the Mustangs firmly in control. King's attempted to rally midway through the set, trimming the deficit to 18–17, but
Tanner Laukhuff responded with consecutive kills to halt the momentum. A late service run by
Kyler Robinson, highlighted by two aces, created separation before Kouchoukos closed the set with a kill to seal a 25–21 win.
Set 2: The Mustangs dominated from the start of the second frame, racing out to a 4–0 lead behind a Trouteaud kill and a Robinson ace. Stevenson's block and defense forced King's into multiple attack errors, while Laukhuff and DeRubertis continued to find success offensively. A strong service run from DeRubertis, including an ace, pushed the lead to 16–4 and effectively put the set out of reach. Contributions from
Sutton Scoutelas and
Aden Thompson down the stretch kept the pressure on, and Stevenson cruised to a decisive 25–7 victory to take a 2–0 match lead.
Set 3: Stevenson rotated its lineup in the third but maintained control. After trading early points,
Patrick Siewert sparked a key run with consecutive service aces, giving the Mustangs a 9–5 advantage. Kills from Thompson, Scoutelas, and
Michael Dixon helped extend the lead, while consistent pressure forced King's into errors. Despite a brief push from King's late in the set, Stevenson remained composed, with Dixon and
Dean Holbrook delivering timely finishes. The Mustangs closed out the set, 25–19, to complete the sweep.
The Mustangs will return to action on Wednesday, April 1, traveling to Eastern for a 7 p.m. MAC matchup.
