Win Streak Snapped as No. 8 Mustangs Fall Short at No. 1 Springfield

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - The Stevenson men's volleyball team ran its win streak to 11 with a straight set win over Endicott before the eight-ranked Mustangs fell to No. 1 Springfield in five sets Saturday evening at Blake Arena.

The Mustangs (12-3) posted a 25-21, 25-17, 25-17 win over the Gulls before dropping the final three sets, 25-22, 27-25, 25-19, 25-14, 15-5 versus the top-ranked Pride.

In the opener versus Endicott (8-8), freshman Landon Shorts led the way with a match-high 14 kills and a .476 hitting percentage. Classmate Jason Gardner added seven kills while junior Nate Ellis finished with six.

For the eighth straight game, Stevenson hit over .300 for the match as the Mustangs totaled just 11 errors on 67 attacks. The team also finished with 10 service aces for the third time this season as seven different players totaled at least one.

The Mustangs hit .333 and .400 in the first two sets, respectively to take a two sets to none lead over Springfield. But Stevenson's hitting went cold as the team hit .091 over the final three sets, including -.250 in the decisive fifth set.

Gardner led the team with 13 kills while Shorts finished with 12. The Pride had three players record at least 12 kills.

Stevenson returns to action on Wednesday, February 24 when the Mustangs travel to Eastern Mennonite for a Continental Volleyball Conference contest beginning at 7:00 p.m.
