Box Score YORK, Pa. - Junior Lorenzo Wright scored his first career goal, but the Stevenson men's soccer team managed just four shots compared to 19 for York (Pa.), as the Mustangs dropped the season opener, 4-1 versus the Spartans Tuesday afternoon at Graham Field.
The Mustangs (0-1) dropped their first season opener in the last seven seasons and fell to 7-2 in season openers under head coach John Plevyak. It was the 19th overall meeting between the two teams and first since 2011 when both teams competed in the Capital Athletic Conference.
Anthony Flores gave the hosts a 1-0 lead just over midway through the first half on a free kick from 24 yards away. The Spartans (1-0) would take their one goal lead going into the break after outshooting Stevenson, 10-2.
York (Pa.) would build a 3-0 lead with under 10 minutes to play, before Wright put the Mustangs on the board. Freshman Kevin Benitez picked up his first career point with an assist.
But the Spartans would push the lead back to three just 3:26 later after Greg Bechard finished a cross from Christopher Saberton.
Senior Ryan Callinan totaled two saves while his counterpart Charlie Johnson also recorded two.
Stevenson returns to action on Saturday, September 5 when the Mustangs begin a three-game home stand beginning with Baruch. Game time is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
