Mustangs Battle Back Twice in Narrow Loss to Neumann

OWINGS MILLS, Md. – The Stevenson University men's soccer team battled back from a pair of one-goal deficits but ultimately fell to Neumann University, 3-2, Tuesday evening at Owings Mills East.

Stevenson came out aggressively in the opening minutes, earning two corner kicks within the first six minutes of play. The Mustangs continued to apply offensive pressure, with senior Jacob Greene registering the team's first shot in the 15th minute.

Neumann broke the scoreless tie in the 29th minute when they found the back of the net off an assist, giving the Knights a 1-0 advantage. Despite earning five corner kicks in the opening half, Stevenson entered the break trailing by one.

The Mustangs responded in the second half, finding the equalizer in the 59th minute. Senior Blest Dumbuya capitalized on a scoring opportunity off a rebound from Jackson Robinson, leveling the contest at 1-1.

Neumann regained the advantage in the 69th minute as they scored off an assist from their goalkeeper, putting the Knights back in front, 2-1.

Refusing to back down, Stevenson continued to battle and found another equalizer in the 79th minute. Greene connected with a header on a pass from Nick Gervase at the 78:23 mark off a free kick, bringing the contest even at 2-2 with just over 11 minutes remaining in regulation.

However, the Knights responded less than a minute later, as they converted a penalty kick at the 79:12 mark to reclaim a 3-2 advantage.

Stevenson pushed for a third equalizer in the closing minutes, with Landon Eaton placing a shot on goal in the 82nd minute that was turned away. The Mustangs earned two additional corner kicks down the stretch but were unable to find the back of the net before the final whistle.

The Mustangs return to action on Saturday when they host Albright College for their last regular season game.
