OWINGS MILLS, Md. – The Stevenson University men's soccer team closed out its regular season on a high note Saturday afternoon, defeating Albright College, 3-1, at Owings Mills East. Senior Blest Dumbuya led the Mustangs with a pair of goals, while fellow senior Kameron Ross added the game-winning tally.
The Mustangs wasted little time getting on the scoreboard, earning an early penalty kick opportunity. Dumbuya stepped up to the spot and converted at the 3:47 mark, giving Stevenson a 1-0 advantage less than four minutes into the contest.
Stevenson continued applying offensive pressure throughout the opening half, with Ross generating multiple scoring opportunities and Dumbuya adding another attempt in the 17th minute.
Despite the Mustangs controlling much of the offensive action, Albright found the equalizer in the 33rd minute. Albright found the back of the net at the 32:15 mark, leveling the contest at 1-1.
Stevenson held a 6-1 advantage in shots during the opening 45 minutes, but the two sides entered halftime deadlocked at one goal apiece.
The Mustangs came out of the break looking to regain control of the contest. Ross tested Albright goalkeeper in the 49th minute before Stevenson continued creating opportunities in the attacking third.
The breakthrough came at the 57:49 mark when Ross capitalized on a feed from Jorge Montecinos, finding the back of the net to restore Stevenson's lead at 2-1.
With momentum on their side, the Mustangs continued pressing offensively. Carter Gourley registered a pair of shots on goal in the 65th and 74th minutes, forcing the Lions to make saves to keep Albright within striking distance.
Stevenson put the finishing touches on the victory in the 84th minute when Dumbuya struck again at the 83:45 mark, recording his second goal of the afternoon and extending the Mustangs' advantage to 3-1.
The Mustangs maintained their two-goal cushion through the final whistle, securing the victory.
