Box Score 2 REISTERSTOWN, Md. - Stevenson women's ice hockey freshman Monica Pozuc scored both goals, including the game-tying goal with 6:01 remaining in the third, but Sacred Heart's leading scorer Casey Stathopoulos also scored twice as the teams battled to a 2-2 tie Saturday at Reisterstown Sportsplex.
Despite the draw, the Mustangs (15-6-1) extended their unbeaten streak to six games, the longest in school history. The team also finished its home schedule with a 5-2-1 record.
After a scoreless first period, Pozuc gave Stevenson a 1-0 lead with an unassisted tally at 8:36 of the second. The lead would hold until Stathopoulos scored with just 31 seconds remaining in the period to tie the game at the second intermission.
Stathopoulos would find the back of the net for the second time in just 55 seconds as she gave the Pioneers (7-14-2) a one-goal lead only 24 seconds into third period.
Pozuc would tie the game with a power play tally at 13:59 off assists from juniors Katie Abbott and Erin McLoughlin. The goal marked the fourth-straight game in which the Mustangs have scored on the power play. During that time, the team is 6-for-19 with the man-advantage for 31.6 percent.
Stevenson has scored at least one power play goal in 13 out of 22 games this season and is ranked 11th in the nation on the man-advantage.
The Mustangs outshot Sacred Heart 32-23, including 3-2 in overtime, but could not get the game-winner. Junior Sarah Modzelewski finished with 21 saves while Amanda Fontaine had 30 for the Pioneers.
Stevenson travels to Neumann on Tuesday before concluding its 2014-15 season with a trip to SUNY Oswego next weekend.
