Box Score 2 REISTERSTOWN, Md. - Stevenson women's ice hockey freshman Chelsea Blackburn netted her second hat-trick in as many games, both against Sacred Heart, as the Mustangs posted a 6-2 vitory over the Pioneers on Friday at Reisterstown Sportsplex.
Stevenson (15-6) extended its winning streak to five, tying the program record set earlier this season. The team is also unbeaten in its last five against Sacred Heart after losing the first three in the series.
With three goals on Friday, Blackburn now has 19 on the season, one shy of becoming just third player to score at least 20 in Division II/III this season. She has six goals and seven points in three meetings against the Pioneers this season.
Her natural hat-trick came with successive goals over the second and third periods, including the fifth short-handed goal in school history and the second this season.
With Stevenson leading 2-1 after one on power play goals by junior Erin McLoughlin and Megan Alexander, Blackburn accounted for both goals in the second, scoring the game-winner at 9:29 off an assist from Alexander.
Blackburn's short-handed tally followed at 16:48 before her third came at 4:47 of the third. Both goals were unassisted and gave the Mustangs a commanding 5-1 advantage.
Junior Rachel Martell scored on a slap shot from the point at 9:41 off a feed from McLouglin who picked up her 10th assist of the season. The goal was the Mustangs' third on the power play as they finished 3-for-10 with a man-advantage.
Stevenson outshot Sacred Heart 37-15, including 26-6 through the first two periods. Junior Anastassia Nelson finished with 13 saves, eight of which came in the third period, as she improved to 5-2 this season.
The Pioneers' two leading scorers, Casey Stathopoulos and Alanna Woodford each picked up a point and now have a combined 48 points this season. Nicole Magee had 31 saves.
