Box Score OWINGS MILLS, Md. - Stevenson men's volleyball juniors Kyle Pottieger and Patrick Schuyler each totaled 15 kills as the Mustangs rebounded a from loss to No. 4 Juniata just 12 hours earlier with a 25-17, 24-26, 25-19, 25-13 victory over Thiel Saturday at Owings Mills Gymnasium.
Stevenson (7-6, 3-1 CVC), who remained in third-place in the Continental Volleyball Conference standings, one game behind Juniata and Rutgers-Newark, finished with three wins during its four-game homestand.
Schuyler tied a career-high with 15 kills, equaling the mark he set vs. Stevens on Feb. 21, 2014. Meanwhile, sophomore Michael Fehrs added 11 kills, two shy of his career-high.
Pottieger totaled six of his 15 kills in the opening set which featured 11 ties and three lead changes. Neither team led by more than two points until a 7-0 run by the Mustangs turned a one-point deficit into a 21-15 lead. Pottieger, Schuyler and Fehrs all had kills during the run while Stevenson took advantage of four Tomcat errors.
Stevenson scored four of the final five points, including two on a kill and service ace from Pottieger.
The Mustangs jumped out to a 6-3 lead in the second set before Thiel (7-8, 1-3 CVC) rallied to tie it at 9-9. Led by four kills from Dylan Lasher, the Tomcats took a 24-18 lead looking to tie the match at one set apiece. However, six-straight points by Stevenson tied the set at 24-24, but back-to-back kills by Alex Ciepiela and John Turner gave Thiel the two-point victory.
The Mustangs led from start to finish in the third set, jumping out to a 6-0 lead before leading by as many as nine at 17-8. Schuyler and Pottieger combined for nine of Stevenson's 18 kills as the team hit .364 while totaling 16 digs.
The fourth set was tied at 7-7 before a 10-2 run by the Mustangs gave them a commanding 17-9 lead. They never trailed in the set and were led by three kills each from Pottieger, Schuyler and sophomore Nate Ellis as well as six digs from sophomore Kyle Johnson. Senior David Moler also had nine assists and three digs.
Johnson finished with a career-high 19 digs while Schuyler added 12. Moller totaled four kills, 47 assists and 11 digs while Ellis had seven kills and nine total blocks.
Lasher led Thiel with 13 kills and 11 digs. Colin Vitale had 17 digs while Ciepiela and Michael Whitelock each had 10 kills.
Stevenson returns to action next Friday, February 27 at the Mark Twain Cup against host and 15th-ranked Elmira at 4:00 p.m.
