Box Score 2 SHELTON, Conn. - Stevenson women's ice hockey freshman Chelsea Blackburn became the second player in school history to record a hat trick and in the process, became the school's single season goals leader as the Mustangs defeated Sacred Heart for the second-straight day, 6-1 Saturday at the Sports Center of Connecticut.
The Mustangs (14-6) have now won four-straight, one shy of the school record set earlier this year from November 22 to December 6. Their 14 wins ties the mark from the first two years combined.
After a scoreless first period, Stevenson netted the game's first goal at 7:49 of the second when junior Erin McLoughlin scored off assists from freshman Samantha Madej and junior Katie Abbott. It was the first of two goals for the trio and marked the fourth-straight contest that the Mustangs scored first.
Stevenson is now 12-0 when scoring first and 10-0 when scoring at least four goals.
Trailing 1-0 to start the third period, the Pioneers (5-13-1) tied the game at the 3:09 mark when Alanna Woodford scored off assists from Taylor Moreland and Casey Stathopoulos.
However, the Mustangs quickly responded, retaking the lead just 1:47 later when Blackburn scored her first goal of the game, tying the single-season school record for goals in a season at 14 with junior McKenzie Taggart who assisted on the play.
Blackburn then broke the record with her second goal of the game, this time on the power play with assists from juniors Jessie Capanelli and Tori Emoff. The goal, which came at 15:34, started a stretch in which Stevenson scored four goals over the final 4:26.

Freshman Kellen Wittman scored her third goal in the last five games at 17:53 off assists from freshman Savannah Sommers and junior Brooke Webber. Wittman has six points over the last five games, totaling three goals and three assists.
Blackburn concluded the scoring with her third goal of the game with just five seconds remaining of an assist from Taggart who registered the first hat trick in school history on Dec. 1, 2013 at St. Benedict.
With 21 saves, junior Anastassia Nelson earned her fourth win in six decisions this season as the Mustangs outshot the Pioneers, 38-22. Stevenson's five goals in the third period were a school record for a single period.
