OWINGS MILLS, Md. - Stevenson men's volleyball sophomore Michael Fehrs totaled a team-high nine kills while senior David Moler added 35 assists and 12 digs, but No. 11 NYU rallied from a 2-0 deficit and staved off three consecutive match points en route to a 19-25, 22-25, 26-24, 25-20, 20-18 victory over the No. 14 Mustangs Saturday at Owings Mills Gymnasium.

The loss was just the fifth at home for the Mustangs (1-1) in the last three seasons as they have posted a 16-5 record with four of those losses coming to teams ranked in the AVCA Division III Coaches Top 15 Poll.

Trailing 19-12 in the third, the Mustangs won seven of the next nine points to cut their deficit to two. With the set tied at 24-24, NYU called a timeout before Nick Benson and Chase Klein posted back-to-back kills to avoid the sweep.

Stevenson led 15-14 in the fifth set and thought it had won the match won, but a kill by Benson just caught the back line. The hosts would have two more match points in the game but the Violets answered with a kill both times.

Two days after totaling the fourth-best hitting percentage in school history, the Mustangs totaled a .169 hitting percentage with 22 errors against the Violets.

Senior Kyle Wisner and junior Patrick Schuyler totaled eight apiece while senior Scott Morantz registered 13 digs.

Benson totaled 28 kills for the Violets (1-0), including seven in the decisive fifth set. Klein and Colin LaPorte combined for 28 kills while Andrew Quirk added a match-high 19 digs.
