Mustangs Sweep Thiel in CVC Finale, Earn Top Seed For CVC Championship

Box Score

GREENVILLE, Pa. - Stevenson men's volleyball sophomore Kyle Pottieger posted a career-high 17 kills while adding seven digs and six block assists to lead the 15th-ranked Mustangs to a 25-21, 25-18, 25-21 victory over Thiel in the Continental Volleyball Conference finale for both teams Saturday at Beeghly Gymnasium.

With the win, Stevenson (20-7, 9-1 CVC) extended its winning streak to six while posting its fourth-straight 20-win season and fifth overall.

The Mustangs also finished the regular season in a tie for first-place in the CVC East Division with Juniata, but will be the division's top-seed in the 2014 CVC Championship. As a result, Stevenson will get a first-round bye and play the winner between the West Division's second-seed, Lakeland, and Thiel in the semifinals on Saturday, April 12 at 3:00 p.m.

Pottieger also had 17 kills in Stevenson's 3-1 victory over No. 7 Baruch on February 22 while his seven digs were two shy of his career-high set versus Thiel on March 8.

Junior Kyle Wisner finished with nine kills and five total blocks while senior Jon Martin added eight kills and a match-high 15 digs. Senior Eddy Klepper had four kills and six block assists.

As a team, Stevenson posted 22 total blocks and a season-best .333 hitting percentage. The Mustangs are now 11-2 in three-set matches this season and 9-1 on the road. They are also 20-6 in three seasons in the CVC.

Evan Proksell led the Tomcats (13-17, 5-5 CVC) with nine kills while Dylan Lasher added eight to go along with 11 digs.

Stevenson will have seven days to prepare for the CVC Championship as the Mustangs look to win the program's first-ever conference championship. The team is 0-2 against the three teams from the West Division, losing to Carthage and Lakeland on February 8. Stevenson is 1-1 against Juniata and 2-0 versus Thiel.
