Box Score IMMACULATA, Pa. – In a back-and-forth battle at Immaculata that included 20 combined hits between the two lineups, the Stevenson baseball team ultimately lost on the road Monday by the score of 7-6. The Mighty Macs scored in each of the first five frames until scoring the winning run in the bottom of the eighth.
Stevenson (10-18) found an early lead with an RBI single from junior Troy Miller and a sacrifice fly from freshman Kevin Kopas. The Mustangs scored three more runs in the third inning, led by RBI singles from sophomores Davis Grove and Nick Peifer.
Immaculata (13-9) battled their way to a 6-5 lead by the fifth inning, aided by an RBI single from Joe DiGiaimo and Patrick Boulware's steal of home plate. The Mighty Macs held on to a slight lead until junior Frederick Casper grounded into a double play in the top of the seventh, allowing pinch runner Joe Bentz to score from third and tie the game at six apiece.
Sophomore Ryan Martin made his first career appearance for the Mustangs, fanning three batters in 2.2 innings of relief until exiting in the eighth inning in favor of Peifer. With two outs and a man on second, Eli Vottero delivered an RBI single to center field, scoring Nick Comito and handing Martin the loss.
The first four batters in Immaculata's lineup went a combined 8-for-16 with three runs scored and five RBIs. The Mighty Macs were also 11-for-14 in stolen bases on the day.
For Stevenson, sophomore Matt Myers finished 2-for-4 at the plate with one run scored and two walks. Senior Scott Merkel went 0-for-2, snapping an eight-game hit streak but scoring a run and drawing two walks.
The Mustangs return to action this Thursday, travelling to Commonwealth opponent Messiah College for game one of their three-game series. First pitch is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
