ST. DAVIDS, Pa. — Stevenson University baseball secured a narrow 3–2 victory over Eastern in Middle Atlantic Conference Commonwealth (MAC Commonwealth), using timely hitting and a dominant effort on the mound to hold off a late push.
Stevenson struck early, plating a run in the first inning when Cole Reich delivered an RBI single to score Landen Eyster. After Eastern answered with an unearned run in the bottom half of the inning, Stevenson regained control in the second on a sacrifice fly from Zach Mayza, bringing home Ben Vaughan.
The Mustangs added the eventual winning run in the fourth inning as Reich again produced, reaching on a fielder's choice that allowed Eyster to score and give Stevenson a 3–2 advantage.
On the mound, Chris Fortunato (3–1) led the way with a strong six-inning outing, allowing two runs (one earned) on five hits while keeping Eastern off balance. Stevenson's bullpen proved, as Jake Treasure closed the door with 2.2 scoreless innings and five strikeouts to earn the save.
Offensively, Reich paced Stevenson with two RBIs, while Shaun Rudick recorded a multi-hit performance.
The Mustangs return to action on Saturday for a double header against Eastern. First pitch is scheduled for noon.
