OWINGS MILLS, Md. — Stevenson baseball rallied from an early deficit and capped off a back-and-forth battle with a walk-off 10–9 victory over Washington College on Wednesday afternoon.
Washington College jumped out to a quick 3–0 lead in the top of the first inning, capitalizing on timely hitting. Stevenson responded in the second, stringing together three runs highlighted by an RBI single from Ben Vaughan and aggressive baserunning to even the score at 3–3.
The Shoremen regained control in the fifth inning, plating five runs on six hits to take an 8–3 advantage. Stevenson chipped away, scoring twice in the bottom of the fifth before capitalizing on a defensive miscue in the sixth that brought the Mustangs within one at 8–7.
Stevenson continued the comeback effort in the seventh, as Landon Richard delivered an RBI single to tie the game at 8–8. After Washington College briefly reclaimed the lead in the eighth, Stevenson answered once again when Landen Eyster drove in the tying run with a sacrifice fly, making it 9–9 heading into the final frame.
In the bottom of the ninth, Jaylon Surell sparked the rally with a leadoff double. After two intentional walks loaded the bases, Ryan Schwartzman delivered the game-winning run on a fielder's choice, sealing the 10–9 comeback victory for the Mustangs.
Stevenson totaled 10 runs on six hits while drawing 11 walks. Surell, Vaughan, and Richard each drove in key runs, while Cole Reich scored twice and reached base multiple times.
On the mound, Ari Lonstein earned the win in relief, closing the door in the ninth after a strong collective effort from the Stevenson bullpen.
The Mustangs return to action on Friday when they travel to Eastern on Friday for a 3:30 p.m. start time.
